Licensed psychotherapist and dedicated psychoanalytic trainee James Robinson is currently accepting new patients for remote psychotherapy

Individual Psychotherapy

As a Black male clinician, I bring a nuanced perspective to my work, and am guided by my passion for helping individuals navigate the complexities of human identity, particularly around race, gender, and sexuality. I have extensive experience working with People of Color, as well as Queer patients, but am deeply invested in helping patients of all backgrounds and identities.

In my decade working as a therapist, I have supported patients through anxiety, depression, transitions, grief, substance use, and everyday life. I work hard to foster a therapeutic space conducive to vulnerable engagement and meaningful growth.

Services

Couples Therapy

I work with couples striving for reflection, difficult conversations, and growth. Together, we discuss points of tension, and explore underlying patterns and triggers, building towards deeper understanding and connection. I help patients to explore and build towards what is best for them both individually and as a couple.

As with my work with individual patients, I am ever cognizant of the ways gender and race shape our identities and interpersonal relationships. I have experience working with couples of all sexualities, as well as Couples of Color and those in interracial relationships.

Psychoanalysis

In addition to my clinical degree in social work, I have been in training at the William Alanson White Institute for Psychoanalysis since 2021. My approach to psychoanalysis is informed by thinkers including Fanon, Lacan, Foucault, and Freud, and is attentive to the ways race, sexuality, colonialism, and sociality shape the unconscious aspects of our lives.

I generally see psychoanalytic patients 3-4 times weekly.

Fees, Insurance Coverage, and Sliding Scale Payment

Fees

My hourly fee for individual therapy is $250. For psychoanalytic patients who attend multiple sessions a week, my fee is $200. For couples therapy, I charge $300.

Insurance

I am considered an out-of-network provider. I regularly bill patients through their insurance companies. If you need help figuring out how to do this, I can speak with you about setting it up.

Sliding Scale

I currently offer a limited number of sliding scale appointments for individuals who can demonstrate financial need. If you’d like to discuss this as a possibility, please get in touch.
